Saturday was one of
the most special days in the history of the Bloco Malagasy. It was the first time the batucada from Madagascar met other similar groups from
Brazil. There were plenty of emotions at 4pm in Pai Adão (a community of Nigerian descendence) when the bloco met the Nação Raíces maracatu.
At night-time, the
group moved to the humble neighbourhood of Pina where the Baque Mulher maracatu (a percussion group solely composed of women) were waiting for them. Girls and women drummed in an act of support for the active role of women in society and the fight against violence toward women, which is a big problem in the neighbourhood in which Baque
Mulher is based.
